New Paltz athletic communications intern Anthony Sorbellini caught up with senior Sam Wasser of the New Paltz men's soccer team for the week 5 release of the 2016-17 Senior Spotlight series that will have a new senior interviewed every Monday.

Q: Why did you decide to come to New Paltz?
 
A: "Initially, I wanted to go somewhere further away from home outside of New York but after my visit, I saw how nice New Paltz was and how good the soccer program was; it was a no brainer."
 
Q:  What is your favorite memory from playing soccer?
 
A: "I would have to say my best soccer memory was the semifinals of the county championship of my senior year of high school. I attended Half Hollow Hills East and we were playing Half Hollow Hills West. It was a rival game with so many fans and I scored the first goal of the game."
 
Q:  How do you prepare for a game?

A: "Before every game, I have to do my hair in a specific way and listen to the same music. I'm pretty superstitious."
 
Q: How do you balance being both a student and an athlete?
 
A: "Going to the library is key - the more often you go to the library the better off you are. I'd say I spend a minimum of two hours a day in the library."
 
Q:  What are your plans after graduation?
 
A: "After graduation, I'd like to find a job in New York City and live with my cousin and my sister."
