Men's Volleyball Ava Yurchison, Athletic Communications Intern

Senior Spotlight: Five Questions with Chris Lilley

New Paltz athletic communications intern Ava Yurchison caught up with senior Chris Lilley of the New Paltz men's volleyball team for the week 11 release of the 2015-16 Senior Spotlight series that will have a new senior interviewed every Monday.

Q: If you could play one other sport at the collegiate level, what would it be and why?
A: "If I could play another sport in college, it would have to be fencing. I fenced in high school and never felt I was good enough to pursue it, especially at the collegiate level. Looking back now, I think I could've trained enough to be good at the sport."

Q: What is your favorite movie quote?
A: "'Winter's a great time to stay in and cuddle, but put me in summer and I'll be a…happy snowman!' -Olaf [from Frozen] (If you ask me to say it in person, I sound like Olaf)."

Q: What was it like competing against your brother at Springfield College?
A: "[laughs] We're going there? Playing my against my brother was pretty cool. Not many people can say they have competed at such a high level against a sibling. It definitely spiked (pun intended) up the sibling rivalry on and off the court. Turns out... he won both."

Q: How is your relationship with your coach?
A: "My relationship with my coach is very comical. My coach is from Romania, and has a very thick accent, as most people know. Half of the time, conversations with our coach are interpreted differently by all of the players. He knows what he's talking about when it comes to volleyball, though."

Q: What is your plan post graduation?
A: "I'm going to be famous. Side note: For all of you who think we'll still be friends when I make it in the big leagues, there will be a strict screening process to decide who is still my friend and who is using me to become close with Amy Schumer. In all seriousness, I want to work for a television studio. Hopefully NBC, because some of my favorite actors and actresses have made their way through NBC, and I plan to follow in their footsteps."
