FREDONIA, N.Y. – Senior first baseman
Jake Cameron (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) and junior center fielder
Matt Carr (Westbury, N.Y./Long Island Lutheran) from the State University of New York at New Paltz were named to the 2012 All-State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Baseball Second Team, as announced Wednesday by the conference office.
Cameron earns his second All-Conference honor in as many years after a season in which he led the SUNYAC in doubles (16) and total bases (81) and tied for the league lead in home runs with four. The Rockville Centre, N.Y., native also led the team and ranked fifth in the conference in hitting with a .372 average, and he finished the season second on the team and fourth in the conference in hits with 51. Cameron also fashioned an impressive slugging percentage (.591), which was the highest on the team, and he tied with Carr for the team lead in runs scored (31). Cameron, a public relations major, is a 2008 graduate of South Side High School, and his parents are Bill and Ellen Cameron.
Carr, a junior transfer from NCAA Division I New York Institute of Technology, earns his first All-SUNYAC nod after a season in which he held down the leadoff spot in the Hawks' order. Carr led the league in stolen bases with 22, and he finished the season tied for second among conference leaders in doubles (11) and wound up with the SUNYAC's third-highest hit total (52). His hit total led the Hawks, and he also paced the team in RBI with 28 and tied with Cameron for the team lead in runs scored with 31. The right-handed center fielder also drew 16 walks, achieved a .415 on-base percentage and hit .349 for the season. Carr, a business administration major, is a 2008 graduate of Long Island Lutheran High School, and his parents are Robert and Gail Carr.
New Paltz narrowly missed out on a .500 record in 2012, going 18-21 overall and 5-13 in SUNYAC games.
