FREDONIA, N.Y. – Junior shortstop/second baseman
Melissa Liotta (Brentwood, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) from the State University of New York at New Paltz was named to the 2012 All-State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Softball Second Team, as announced Tuesday by the conference office.
Liotta batted a team-best .333 for the season (44-for-132) and started in all 40 of New Paltz's games in 2012. She also led the Hawks in hits (44), doubles (8), triples (3), home runs (1), RBI (19) and slugging percentage (.462). In three years of action, she ranks eighth on the program's all-time list in steals (25), 10th in hits (110), tied for 10th in RBI (63) and 12th in doubles (20). This marks her first-ever All-SUNYAC mention. Liotta, a psychology and theatre double major, is a 2009 graduate of St. John the Baptist High School, and her parents are Gerard and Patricia Liotta.
New Paltz finished the 2012 season at 14-26 overall and 6-12 in SUNYAC contests.
