Tournament Website

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team cruised to a New Paltz Women's Tennis Tournament title on Saturday at the North Tennis Courts, defeating SUNY Plattsburgh, 9-0, in the championship match. Eight teams total competed in the tournament.

The Hawks started the day by besting State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) rival SUNY Oneonta, 7-0, and they then topped Bard College, 6-0. New Paltz finished out round-robin play by blanking St. Thomas Aquinas College, 6-0. This pitted the Hawks against the Cardinals in the championship, as Plattsburgh went 3-0 in the opposite group.

All matches were one set to six with a tie-breaker at 6-all. Teams that had eight players played six singles matches and one doubles match, while teams that only had seven players played seven singles matches. Both singles and doubles ran concurrently. One point was awarded to the team that wins the match (i.e.: if the match consists of seven matches, the first team to reach four wins in the match wins the point). In the event of a points tie, the team that concedes the fewest amount of games over its three matches wins.

The event marked the final one of the 2011-12 season for the New Paltz women's tennis team. The Hawks finished second at the 2011 SUNYAC Women's Tennis Championship Tournament in October, 2011, and New Paltz has now placed at least second at the league championship for 10 straight years.
