IWLCA Academic and Merit Squads
GRAND LAKE, Colo. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's lacrosse program was named an Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division III Academic Squad for the 2010 season, as announced by the IWLCA.
New Paltz joins 63 other NCAA Division III programs on the list of Academic Squad honorees. In order to reach Academic Squad status, a team must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Fellow State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) foes Buffalo State and SUNY Oneonta also appeared on this distinguished list.
Cross-river rival Vassar College earned Merit Squad status along with Washington & Lee University and Bates College. Merit Squad status is earned by virtue of having one of the top three GPAs.
The New Paltz women's lacrosse team boasts a cumulative team GPA of 3.04 and had five SUNYAC Commissioner's List honorees for the spring of 2010.
Second-year head coach Heather Semelmacher helped guide the blue and orange to a 4-11 record in 2010, which marked the highest single-season win total in the program's eight-year history.
